In the safe vault of Texas-based Austin Rescue Ranch, everyone feels loved and accepted.
The stubborn survivor
That’s because farm animals either have needs of their own or are survivors of abuse and neglect.
And so when a young child with a congenital hand deformity visits a farmer’s Harper Walls, meeting a rescue turkey with a “lucky paw” like Priscilla’s can have a therapeutic effect.
According to Jaime Wallace-Greiner, founder of the shelter, “Seeing a little kid come out and say, ‘They’re just like me,’ with differences, is absolutely wonderful. The sight of her holding Priscilla’s lucky hand in her lucky palm simply melts Harper’s heart.”
A facility for animals with special needs
Animals that would have been abandoned or culled.
We have animals that are blind or deaf, have diabetes, cerebral palsy, deformities, missing limbs, broken spines, and more. They all became part of our family, Wallace Greiner continued.
Introducing Halo
In the reserve, you may encounter animals such as Halo, the Great Pyrenees pup.
Breeder Halo was put into a cage after it was determined that she could not be used.
Fortunately, Wallace-Greiner was able to save Halo and take care of him properly.
Halo finally had her hind limb amputated and her front end reconstructed.
Like everyone else
However, Wallace Greiner noticed that she didn’t seem aware of her differences from other dogs.
She was a kind and cheerful girl all her life.
New legs
Before getting a set of prosthetic legs from OrthoAs, Halo used to move around by jumping.
The first time she used her new legs, something nice happened.
